CHARTHIRE’S VOLVO FM-440 DRAWBARS JOIN SMURFIT KAPPA FLEET

12 February 2009

CHARTHIRE’S VOLVO FM-440 DRAWBARS JOIN SMURFIT KAPPA FLEET Nottingham-based fleet solutions provider Charthire has taken delivery of three Volvo FM prime movers. The I-shift-equipped, 440hp vehicles are destined for service with Smurfit Kappa UK’s depot at Snodland, Kent, where they will work on regional paper and card recycling collection routes. “We supplied Volvo vehicles to Smurfit Kappa because that’s what they asked for!” says Charthire Director Chris Spencer. “They’ve been running them for many years at Snodland and the drivers absolutely love them, so he always stipulates Volvo. Personally, I’m very impressed with the I-Shift gearbox, having driven it myself, and I know that Smurfit Kappa’s drivers feel the same way.” The trucks all have day cabs and are fitted with V. Orlandi couplings; they are plated for operation at 40 tonnes. Charthire supplied around 15 vehicles to the Snodland depot, including two Volvo FE-240’s and a Volvo FE-310 drawbar. While repair and maintenance will be handled by a local subcontractor, Chris is very pleased with the service he has received from supplying dealer Hartshorne Motor Services at Alfreton. “They’ve been good people to deal with,” he says. “Even though there were a few glitches with the specification, they got them ironed out quickly and were able to get the vehicles delivered as per the original schedule.” - ENDS - Nottingham-based fleet solutions provider Charthire has taken delivery of three Volvo FM prime movers.
